…A customer came into the ReStore in search of a light colored armchair and ultimately purchased one with a matching ottoman. While she was sitting in the chair and making her decision, another volunteer walked over and started asking the woman about a purchase she had made last weekend. As it turns out, the customer had purchased a desk that was not, according to the other volunteer, exactly a “grab and go” sort of purchase. In fact, the volunteer was surprised the woman was interested in the desk at all. However, the customer had told her that she was not afraid of doing a little work. Today, she shared that all it took to make the desk presentable was a little sanding here and there, a tightening of some screws, and her special lemon-bleach-hydrogen peroxide formula for removing a few of the stains. Many of the pieces at the ReStore are certainly “grab and go,” ready to leave the floor and immediately find a home in someone’s house, but other pieces may need a little more effort or look a little more loved, like this customer’s desk. Moral of this blog post: don’t let a few dings or a misbehaving drawer scare you away from a piece you love or that would be great for your home, a little spit shine or elbow grease just might do the trick!
